Matter vs. Zigbee in numbers
How big is Matter compared to Zigbee? This page sets certified Matter devices (CSA database, as of 3 de noviembre de 2026) against the Zigbee devices supported by Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA, duplicates removed (as of 27 de octubre de 2026). The two numbers measure different things, see “How to read the numbers”.
Matter (certified)
5185
devices · 438 vendors
Zigbee (Zigbee2MQTT and ZHA)
5952
devices · 613 vendors
The number of certified Matter devices currently equals about 87% of the Zigbee devices supported by Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA. In 2025, 1683 Matter devices were newly certified, against 944 newly supported Zigbee devices.
New devices per year
Matter: by year of first certification. Zigbee: by the year Zigbee2MQTT added support (ZHA devices carry no year and are not included). The current year is incomplete.

The technology compared
| Matter | Zigbee | |
|---|---|---|
| Radio and protocol | Application layer on IP: runs over Thread, Wi-Fi and Ethernet | Own mesh radio standard (IEEE 802.15.4, 2.4 GHz) with its own protocol stack |
| Hub | Controllers such as Home Assistant, Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa; Thread devices need a border router | A coordinator (USB stick or gateway) that forms the network |
| Several systems | Multi-admin: one device can run in several ecosystems at once | A network belongs to one coordinator, other systems only via a bridge |
| Certification | Required for the Matter logo, publicly listed in the CSA database | Certification is optional; many devices are uncertified but compatible |
| Device choice | Growing fast, but does not yet cover every device type | Very broad and often cheap range that has grown over many years |
How to read the numbers
The numbers are not directly comparable. For Matter, every certification in the official CSA database counts, that is every product that passed testing.
For Zigbee there is no comparable public master list. We count the models supported by Zigbee2MQTT and add the devices that run with ZHA according to the blakadder database. Models found in both count once. These are devices that work in practice, even without certification. Models sold under several brands appear several times.
Zigbee2MQTT separates vendors finely by brand. A Matter vendor corresponds to the entry in the certification database.
